Stirling drives United to second position on points table


KARACHI: Paul Stirling laid down a solid foundation for Islamabad United as they chased down 157 runs with six wickets in hand against Quetta Gladiators in the 12th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 6.

Hales and Stirling provided a strong 73-run start to teh chasing side which put Gladiators under pressure while defending.

Gladiators’ skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed led his team from the front as they survived well to finish their first inning at 156-7.

Sent into bat first, Gladiators lost wickets after regular intervals but Sarfaraz held his nerves tight and scored his second fifty in this year’s PSL.

Sarfaraz smashed four sixes in a row to Iftikhar and roped three boundaries to score 54 runs off 41 balls. Ben Cutting scored 23 runs laced with two boundaries and a six. Mohammad Nawaz remained not out for 31 runs spread over a boundary and as many sixes.

Faheem Ashraf bagged three wickets for United whereas Hasan Ali took two scalps. Shadab Khan also took a wicket.

In reply, United were off to a strong start. Stirling powered 56 runs off 33 balls with the help of eight boundaries and two sixes. Whereas, Hales scored 23 runs with the help of five boundaries.

Rohail Nazir did dream debut for United as he smashed 34 runs with the help of four boundaries and a six.

Shadab Khan contributed 21 runs laced with two boundaries whereas Asif Ali scored 16 runs.

For Gladiators, Zahid Mahmood bagged two wickets while Dale Steyn and Mohammad Hasnain shared a wicket apiece.


United has won the toss and decided to bowl first against Gladiators.
