Skipper Bismah leads Pakistan to first win in ICC Womens T20 World Cup

Canberra: Skipper Bismah Maroof 37- ball 38* not out led Pakistan women to the first win in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

The girls in green comfortably defeated West Indies by eight wickets at Manuka Oval in Canberra. Pakistan chased the target of 125 in the 19th over.

Bismah smashed four fours in her innings. Apart from Bismah, opener Javeria Khan scored quickfire 35 which included six boundaries. She along with Muneeba Ali added 58 for the first-wicket. Muneeba departed after scoring 26-ball 25. Afy Fletcher and West Indies skipper Stafanie Taylor picked one-wicket each.

Earlier, Pakistan restricted West Indies to 124 for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 over. after WI decided to bat first after winning the toss

Diana Baig, the right-arm medium pacer dismissed Harley Mathews on the first bowl of the match. Later on, Diana in her third over dismissed Lee-ann Kirby followed by Deandra Dottin who fell to Nida Dar.

Taylor along with Shemaine Campbelle rescued West Indies and added a 63-run stand for the fourth wicket. Anam Amin with her slow left-arm orthodox broke the vital partnership. and dismissed Campbelle. She scored 36-ball 43 which added two fours and as many sixes.

Taylor departed in the 18th over courtesy Nida Dar picking her wicket. She managed to score 43 which included two fours and sixes.

Diana, Aimen Anwar, and Nida were the notable performers with the bowl claiming two wickets each. Javeria was awarded as the player of the match for her brilliant 35.
