Karachi: Ali Shafiq defended 15 runs in last over despite back-to-back no-balls to hand Multan Sultans a convincing three runs victory over Peshawar Zalmi at National Stadium on Friday.
Sultans’ bowlers dominated throughout as experienced Sohail Tanvir led the charge from the front by bagging three wickets for 26 runs in four overs.
Earlier, Sultans’ openers Zeeshan Ashraf and Rohail Nazir started the inning patiently. Rohail (14) in his first match of the season, departed in the sixth over. Zeeshan continues to play his inning and made a half-century in just 35 balls. He smashed seven fours and a six.
Sultans suffered a mini-collapse, losing four wickets for just 14 runs. Khushdil Shah cameo of 20-balls 30 in the latter part of the innings powered table-toppers to a reasonable total of 154.
Rahat Ali was the pick of the bowlers, claiming three for 24, captain Wahab Riaz, Hassan Ali and Amir Khan picked a wicket each.
In reply, Imam-ul-Haq (56) provided a strong start to Zalmi but wickets falling on the other hand after regular intervals put pressure on the men in yellow. Umar Amin scored 29 while Shoaib Malik made 30 runs but couldn’t manage to take their team over the victory line.
Ali Shafiq took two wickets while Mohammad Irfan and Moeen Ali bagged a wicket each apart from Tanvir.
