Zazai, Wells hand Zalmi ‘PSL Final’ spot for the fourth time

ABU DHABI: Hazratullah Zazai and Jonathan Wells partnered strongly as Peshawar Zalmi beat Islamabad United by eight wickets in Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 6’s second Eliminator and qualify for the event’s final for the fourth time.

The left-hand-right-hand combination scored 126 runs together to help Zalmi chase down 175 runs with 19 balls to spare.

Zazai continued his form and scored his third fifty in this year’s PSL, ending up on 66 off 44 laced with six boundaries and four sixes.

After the wicket of Kamran Akmal, Zazai took the whole responsibility with debutant Wells who scored his maiden PSL fifty. He remained not out for 55 off 43 spread over six boundaries and three sixes.

Experienced Shoaib Malik anchored 32 off 10 balls with the help of five boundaries and a six to help Zalmi lock the PSL 6 final with already qualified Multan Sultans.

Hasan Ali and Mohammad Wasim took a wicket each for United while defending the total. Earlier too, it was Hasan who smashed 45 runs to rescue United to a compatible total of 174/9 in 20 overs.

Sent into bat first, United suffered under pressure, losing their opener Usman Khuwaja on a run-out. Mohammad Imran bagged Mohammad Akhlaq in second over to reduce the men in red to 15-2.

Colin Munro drove his force and smashed 44 runs off 29 balls with the help of seven boundaries and a six. United kept on losing wickets after regular intervals after the departure of Munro.

United were 110-7 when Hasan came in and who knew he would take his team to a fighting total by fire-powering handy knock of 45 laced with five boundaries and three sixes. Mohammad Wasim smashed two sixes to score 17 runs off 11 balls.
