Pakistan have found it hard to get good opening pairs in cricket down the years but on this day history was made as Ijaz Ahmed and Aamer Sohail formed an amazing partnership at the National stadium in Karachi on 7th December 1997.
The duo scored 298 against West Indies for the first wicket which still stands as the highest first wicket partnership in test matches for Pakistan and is ranked 14th in the list of all time highest opening wicket partnerships in test matches.
Ijaz Ahmed scored 151 runs while Aamer Sohail scored 160 runs and totally dominated the Windies bowling attack. Pakistan won that match comprehensively by ten wickets as West Indies were dismissed for low totals in both innings and Pakistan chased down a rather small total easily in the 4th innings.
