Malinga, Karunaratne, Mathews refuse to play in Pakistan


Sri Lankan team’s senior players have refused to travel to Pakistan later this month to play three T20Is and as many ODIs.

Lasith Malinga, Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews, Suranga Lakmal and 10 other players have decided to withdraw from the tour of Pakistan.

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) gave a briefing to 30 players about the team’s tour to Pakistan. The board officials made sure to rope in the players’ interest to play in Pakistan.

It is pertinent to mention here that SLC had confirmed to send their team to Pakistan to play white-ball cricket. The sports minister of Sri Lanka Harin Fernando announced to travel with the team to reduce the fear of players.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started preparations for the tour as three ODIs are scheduled in Karachi on Septemeber 27, 29 and October 2 while three T20Is will take place in Lahore on October 5, 7 and 9.

The tickets for the tour will go on sell in mid-September. Rs 500 is the minimum price for the ticket while the expensive ticket will be of Rs 8000.
