ZURICH – Olympique de Marseille full-back Patrice Evra has been banned from European club football for the rest of the season after he clashed with supporters before a Europa League game, UEFA said on Friday.

Former France international Evra, named as a substitute, was sent off before kickoff in the match at Portugal’s Vitoria Guimaraes after he appeared to aim a kick at a fan at the side of the pitch during the warm-up.

The 36-year-old has been suspended from all UEFA club competition matches until June 30.

Evra was widely condemned for the assault on a Marseille spectator which took place during the pre-match warm-up of a Europa League tie at Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes last week.
