Swiss player Martina Hingis had an incredible 2015 as she bagged five grand slam titles this year after coming out of retirement at the age of 35.
Hingis partnered with Indian player Sania Mirza in the women’s doubles while in the mixed doubles events throughout the year Leander Paes was the one to partner him. Both of players are top ranked players and helped Hingis regain her form rather quickly as she brushed aside any rustiness in her game in a matter of months.
She was delighted to see the way she performed this year and expressed here thoughts in an interview recently (quotes via dnaindia.com)
“My quality to adapt to moments and partners is the key,” she said. “Leander has one of the best volleys in the game. He controls the net when I am at the baseline. With Sania, it’s the other way around as she plays exactly opposite to Leander. I can adjust to any partner.”
“It has been an incredible year,” she said. “I had hopes of winning one or two titles, but I have five. It’s been better than expected.”
“Sania has always been a great player before teaming up with me. She was World No. 5 (in doubles). We have respect for each other and she is a very optimistic person. As our friendship and relationship grew, we have got better and better. That’s the key to our success,”
