Mendis, Gunathilaka, Dickwella suspended, sent home from England for bio-bubble breach

London: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have suspended Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka after the three admitted to breaching the team’s bio-secure bubble in Durham on Sunday night.

The three are being flown home immediately from the tour of England. Team management investigated after a video emerged on social media that showed Mendis and Dickwella out in a public place in Durham.

Gunathilaka was not in the video, but he has been suspended along with the other two players ahead of first ODI of the series on Tuesday.

On the other hand, it is yet to unveil whether the three players had any contact with others within the bio-secure bubble.

“The players have been suspended pending a full inquiry, but have confessed to having gone out,” SLC vice-president Mohan de Silva said. “They are being recalled from the tour with immediate effect.”

It must be noted that Sri Lanka are having a bad time in England. They have already received criticism from country’s cricket fraternity and the public for their performances and now face questions over their behaviour off it as well.
