Messi may not extend his Barcelona contract: Reports

Barcelona’s star striker, Lionel Messi has allegedly communicated the club’s officials that he is not much interested in extending his contract with the Spanish football club.

Messi is currently under contract with Barcelona till the summer of 2018, there were reports earlier that the Argentinean striker will keep featuring the club throughout his career.

Madrid daily, Marca ported that the magical Messi has conveyed the authorities of the club that he does not want his contract with the club to be renewed.

As per some reports, the recent tax scandal of Messi in Spain is one of the reasons why he wants to move on from the champion Spanish club.

On the other hand, the president of the club. Josep Bartomeu is hopeful to keep his star performer in the ranks. He has already renewed contracts of Brazil’s Neymar, Spain’s Sergio Busquets and Argentine’s Javier Mascherano.

Bartomeu told Dailymail earlier, ““We will have negotiations with Messi in the next couple of months,” he said. “Right now he has a contract to the end of the Russian World Cup [in 2018] and we are very happy with him. He’s the best player in the world, by far.”

“I don’t know what will happen in the future, but of course we will always try to explain to him that he is at the best club in the world and this is the best place for him to live and he is living the best experience of his life with us,” he added.

The star footballer has been associated with Barcelona since he was 13 years old. He made his debut for the club when he was 17.
