New Zealand A defeated the touring Sri Lanka A side at Christchurch in the second unofficial one day match by 15 runs and now lead the four match series 2-0.
Sri Lanka A won the toss and elected to field first. New Zealand made 305 in their allotted 50 overs thanks to fifties from Pollard, Bracewell and Nicholls. Barcewell was the top scorer with 83 runs off 72 balls as he smacked 7 fours and two sixes. He along with Nicholls put on 132 runs for the fourth wicket in quick time at a run rate of over 7 and a half. Sri Lankan pacer Rajitha took 2 wickets after conceding 63 runs and was their most successful bowler on the day.
Sri Lanka A went about the chase in concentrated fashion and were chipping away at the runs at a decent run rate which kept them in the game. Vithanage was leading the charge from the Lankan side as he scored a brilliant century and at one stage they were 277/4. But in cam Adam Milne as he removed the century maker for 120 and this sparked a collapse as Sri Lanka lost the next 5 wickets in quick succession and were bowled out for 290. Four batsmen were run out during the innings which depicts lack of communication and understanding between the players.Adam Milne took 3 wickets for 49 runs and was the chief destroyer.
The next two ODI matches between the two sides will be played on the 10 and 13 of October respectively and will be do or die game for the visiting side as they no longer have any room for error.
