Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq held the batsman in high regard as he praised their efforts in the second test match win at Dubai.
While talking to media after the match ended Misbah was impressed with the way Asad Shafiq’s knocks at the crucial number 6 position and admired the way he was improving with every passing test match (quotes via Reuters)
“With the way Asad Shafiq is batting, he is getting better and better with every test match,”
It should be noted here that Asad Shafiq is Pakistan highest run scorer so far in this series with 275 runs at an average of almost 69 runs.
Shan Masood has failed to impress with the bat but Misbah still said that he has been contributing with the bat. He also added that he has missed the chances he got but that happens in cricket. Shan had a great opportunity of getting a big one under his belt when he scored a fifty in the first innings. But he threw his wicket away just at the wrong time. With Azhar Ali waiting in the wings, Shan’s place in the side might be in jeopardy come the third and final test match in Sharjah.
“Shan Masood is also there. He has been contributing well. Hafeez played a really good innings. Younus and me scored crucial runs but others are also contributing.”
Shan is trying hard but obviously sometimes it happens that we miss chances,”
Misbah appreciated the way English lower order and especially Rashid stretched the game to the limits and made life difficult for Pakistan bowlers. He said that sometimes you do tend to get the top order out early and the lower order fights back and his statement was spot on because there are many such instances in cricket.
“It’s a game of patience and they gave us a tough time and took the game so close,”
“Sometimes, even the last wicket can play for a whole hour or 15 to 20 overs. We know the pressure is going to be on them when close and that’s what happened.
“Rashid, who played really well, made a mistake and we just managed to win,”
