Pakistan’s former Test cricketer, Misbah-ul-Haq said that Sarfraz Ahmed should not be criticized for one bad performance as he has led Pakistan to numerous achievements.
Misbah, while talking to the media in Karachi, said that Sarfraz is a man with a good presence of mind and replacing him will not give any sense.
“Sarfraz is leading the side from the front and one bad performance doesn’t mean that you start talking about replacing him,” he said.
The former captain was quick to add that Sarfraz should lead the side in next year’s world cup and also asked the PCB to not disturb the team’s combination before the most important cricketing event.
“World cup is just six months away and this is not an ideal time to bring any change in the side,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that there is news propagating regarding the replacement of Sarfraz as captain.
Earlier, PCB chairman Ehsan Mani said that they are not sure whether Sarfraz will lead Pakistan in the world cup or not and they will take this decision after consulting the cricket committee.
“We haven’t made any decision regarding Sarfraz’s future as a captain in World Cup 2019. However, we will review all the suggestions made by the cricket committee in this regard,” Mani was quoted saying.
Misbah said that the national team learnt a lot from Asia cup where they faced difficulties to carry their winning momentum.
“You always learn from bad times and Asia cup’s performance addressed our boys’ weaknesses,” said Misbah who believes that young players will play an important role in the upcoming world cup.
Misbah who is a member of PCB’s newly formed cricket committee said they are up with some suggestion for the board regarding the betterment of domestic infrastructure.
He said that the domestic cricket needs PCB’s full attention as it is the main source of producing players for the national team.
“We need to improve our domestic cricket which will help us produce more players,” he said.
Misbah was quick to add that PCB needs to build grounds having proper facilities such as gym, side pitches so that players can train there properly.
The veteran batsman also appealed to the government to play their part in improving the sports infrastructure in the country.
He also asked the government to make efforts for the revival of cricket in the country which can play a major role in flourishing the status of the game.
