Mooen Ali and Adil Rashid left the podium before their teammates began celebrating with champagne after they won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
On Sunday, England ended their 44-year wait for a maiden 50-overs World Cup title by beating a determined New Zealand side on boundaries after a tied super over amidst nail-biting drama at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Both Muslim players skipped the celebration to avoid getting wet from the alcohol content as Islam prohibits the consumption of alcohol.
This is not the first time when Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid escaped from the champagne celebration. Earlier in 2017, the duo were also seen walking away from the podium when England defeated South Africa by 3-1 in a Test series and in 2015 when the English men won against Aussies in Ashes.
Despite the fact that they were not part of the celebrations, Moeen and Adil didn’t mind missing out and rejoined the team to share their delight on historic win.
