Mohammad Sami to lead Islamabad United in PSL 4

The owner of Islamabad United Mr Ali Naqvi officially announced the right-arm pacer Mohammad Sami as captain of the team, while leg-spinner Shadab Khan will be the vice-captain in the fourth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The owner made the announcement on Monday at Rawalpindi during a press conference with the players and team officials.

“Mohammad Sami will captain Islamabad United this season,” he said. “Sami is a fantastic bowler, hopefully, he will do well as a captain.”

The 37-year-old bowler thanked the franchise owner and officials for giving him the charge this year.

“It’s a great honour for me to lead the two-time defending champions, I wish to sustain the winning streak in PSL 4,” Sami said during the ceremony.

The CEO of the franchise told media that the decision has been taken after consultation with team management including Dean Jones and Waqar Younis. He further said that Luke Ronchi is a tremendous player but they prefer to give the responsibility to the local player.

The team was previously led by Misbah-ul-Haq who will now play for Peshawar Zalmi.
