Multan beat Peshawar convincingly by five wickets in a game played on Thursday of the National T20 Cup at Multan Cricket Stadium.
Multan won the toss and elected to bowl first. Peshawar had a relatively poor start to their inning, losing two wickets for just 35 runs. However, the opener Fawad Khan and Raees Ahmed had a handy 36-run partnership, before the opening batsman fell on 40 (33).
Peshawar lost two quick wickets, in the shape of Khan and Nabi Gul who failed to open his account. But, Ahmed joined hands with Mohammad Mohsin to take their team to a respectable total of 132/6 in their quota of 20 overs.
Mohammad Irfan remained the pick of the bowler with two wickets to his name, while Zulfiqar Babar, Bilawal Bhatti and Muhammad Imran struck once.
When Multan came out to bat, they suffered an early loss when Gulraiz Sadaf got out at a score of two runs. It was the other opening batsman, Hasan Raza, who stood at the crease for his team to give them the win.
Though Raza kept losing partners at the other, but his courageous 54-ball 67 runs inning got his team over the line at an expense of five wickets in 18.5 overs.
Mohammad Junaid took three wickets, but he could not change the outcome of the match in his team’s favour. Imran Khan and Mohammad Mohsin also got one wicket apiece.
