IBSF World U-18 Snooker Champion, Naseem Akhtar has been awarded a higher education scholarship by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Young Naseem Akhtar became the first Junior Snooker Champion from Pakistan, on his return from Beijing, he requested the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, to award him a scholarship for higher education as his reward.
The PM did not respond to his request of the cueist, however, Bilawal Bhutto acted promptly and awarded him the scholarship.
The Senior Vice President of Pakistan Snooker and Billiard Association, Javed Karim told ARY News that the Chairman of PPP will soon meet the World Junior Snooker Champion.
As per Javed Karim, providing high education to young athletes is necessary as it reflects that these players are not only good at their sport, but they are also well educated.
Naseem Akhtar belongs to Sahiwal and there are not enough snooker facilities in his city, so he had to come to Lahore to get proper training for the event.
