Pakistan hockey head coach Shahnaz Sheikh resigned from his post today (Thursday). ARY News reported.
This decision came months after the national team failed to qualify for the Olympics for the first time in its history.
Sheikh retaliates to the criticism made by secretary IPC and said “Hockey’s Poor performance is not due to me, it’s the non availability of funds. I resigned on my own as I realized the hockey federation doesn’t need me anymore.”
A congress meeting was called upon in Crown Plaza Hotel, Islamabad to get vote of confidence for the nominated Pakistan Hockey Federation’s President Brig (R) Khalid Sajad Kokhar. The meeting was attended by 95 of the 105 members of the hockey federation. Shehnaz Sheikh submitted his resignation to the newly appointed President.
While speaking to ARY news the ex Olympian Shehnaz Sheikh said “I did what I could do for the betterment of hockey.” I am disappointed with the secretary IPC’s comments regarding my future and I have resigned without any pressure. “I have given a 3-point agenda for the improvement of hockey is with the newly appointed president” said Shehnaz Sheikh. The president Brig (R) Khalid Sajad Kokhar later accepted his resignation.
