National Junior, Youth Athletics championship kicks off in Islamabad


PAF’s Waqar Younis jumped 81.6m to clinch the gold in Long Jump event of the third National Junior and Youth Athletics championship at Islamabad.

Mohammad Irfan set on the second slot followed by Unsar who went on to clinch Bronze.

In Men’s hurdle event, Masoor of Punjab bagged gold after covering the distance of 15.6s well above than Ahsan Umar who took 110s to reach the final destination.

The Discus throw event went in the name of Punjab’s Ghulam who covered the distance of 88.18m.

Rana Arbaz of HEC bagged silver while Noman managed bronze.

In Men’s 1500m sprint, Mohammad Iftikhar clinched gold with covering the distance in 4:16:67minutes.

In women’s 200m sprint, Faiqa Riaz of HEC finished with gold after covering the respective distance in 28.15s.

In women’s discus throw, Punjab’s Mahnoor snatched the gold from her counterparts.

Faiqa Riaz won her second gold in Long Jump covering the distance of 4.94m.

Earlier, the president Pakistan Athletics Federation (PAF), Major General (R) Mohammad Akram inaugurated the event.

A total of 14 teams will compete in the tournament including Pakistan Army, WAPDA, Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Railway, HEC, Punjab, Sindh, KP, Baluchistan, Islamabad, Azad Jammu Kashmir, FATA, and Gilgit/Baltistan.

More than 300 male and female athletes will take part in different sports.
