Karachi: Skipper Nauman Ali bagged five wickets for 62 runs as Northern took control over Sindh by bowling them out for 217 runs on Day 2 of third round in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at UBL Sports Complex.
Sindh has a poor day with their key batsmen being rusty before nOrthern’s bowlers. Apart from Nauman, Waqar Ahmed took four scalps to dent opponents.
Northern were bowled out for 328 runs initially at the start of Day 2. Sohail Khan was the pick of the bowlers for Sindh as he picked up 4 wickets for 52 runs. Tabish Khan bagged three wickets while Fawad Alam took two wickets on opening day.
Mohammad Nawaz was the highest run-scorer from Northern with 73 runs off 112 runs laced with eight boundaries and two sixes.
In reply, Sindh lost Khurram Manzoor on 22 runs but Sharjeel Khan (48) and Saud Shakeel (25) led the charge and took their team to 60-1 by adding 38 runs together.
Asad Shafiq scored 35 runs off 63 balls while Fawad Alam made 39 with the help of four boundaries. Sarfaraz Ahmed went out for naught.
However, Northern closed their second inning on Day 2 at 45-3 with Sarmad Bhatti (13) and Mohammad Nawaz (2) being not out at the crease.
On the other hand, Mohammad Abbas took six wickets while Hussain Talat scored yet another century in this tournament as Southern Punjab (SP) made their position steady in the match.
However, bowlers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) held their dominancy in the later half of the day restricting SP to 257-6, still 4-runs behind KP’s total of 304-10. Khalid Usman and Sajid Khan shared two wickets each.
Meanwhile, Hussain smashed 131 runs off 180 balls with the help of 13 boundaries while Mohammad Irfan remained not out for 71 runs off 108 balls.
Earlier, Abbas shined with the bowl and picked 6 wickets for just 33 runs to help SP bowl out KPK for 304. Adil Amin was the top-scorer from KPK.
In another match of Round 3 at National Stadium, Central Punjab (CP) reached 204-6 after bowling out Baluchistan for 306. Skipper Azhar Ali led his side from the front by scoring 63 runs off 147 balls with the help of 10 boundaries. Usman Salahuddin made 44.
Bilawal Iqbal (19*) and Ahmed Safi (21*) will resume the inning for CP tomorrow. Tajwali and Ammad Butt will continue with the bowling figures of 2-46 and 2038, respectively.
