NBP wins three consecutive matches in National Hockey Championship


Rawalpindi: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) beat Punjab in a thrilling encounter by 2-1 in 66th National Senior Hockey Championship here at Mari Petroleum Stadium.

Punjab took the lead as Hanan Shahid scored his team’s only goal in the 13th minute. Kashif scored the equalizer while Abu Bakar netted the winning goal is the 34th minute.

On the other hand, Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) defeated favorites of the tournament Pakistan Army by 2-1.

MPCL’s Umair Sattar needed the opener on the first penalty corner MPCL received in the 8th minute. Umair again scored a goal in the third quarter while Mohammad Arsalan reduced the margin to 2-1 by scoring a penalty corner goal in the 38th minute.

Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC) outclassed Police by 9-0 in a one-sided encounter. Ahmed Nadeem registered a hat-trick while Mubashir Ali and Ali Shan netted two goals each. Zeeshan Khan and Mohammad Rizwan scored a goal each too.

Wapda stroked six goals against Port Qasim courtesy of Aleem Bilal, who scored a hat-trick. Amjad Ali, Rana Waheed and Sohail Anjum banged home one each field goal to see Wapda picking up yet another impressive win.

In the last match, NAVY claimed an impressive 3-0 win over PAF. Babar Hussain, Hammad Ali and Noman Janjua scored one each.
