New Zealand’s upcoming tours in jeopardy

Karachi: New Zealand men and women cricket teams’ upcoming tours are in danger following the current global crisis across the world due to coronavirus outbreak.

New Zealand Cricket’s Chief Executive David White confirmed that teams’ upcoming assignments would be affected by the current situation.

“Clearly, this situation is extremely disappointing for everyone involved in sport but, given the bigger picture, and the terrible toll COVID-19 is taking worldwide, we need to look after not only our own people but the greater community good,” White stated on Friday.

New Zealand is currently facing a four-week nation-wide lockdown which has abandoned all cricket-related activities in the country.

CEO highlighted that their team cut-off Australia tour last month and their upcoming tours of Netherlands, Scotland, Ireland and West Indies in June and July are most likely to be postponed.

Meanwhile, the women’s team tour to Sri Lanka, scheduled for later this month, has also been delayed for an indefinite period.

It must be noted here that all major sports events around the world have been postponed considering current lockdown across the world due to deadly coronavirus.
