South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been named as the newcomer of the year award and it makes sense as well because the young pacer took the world by surprise when he burst onto the scene and took 6 wickets for 16 runs in his debut match against Bangladesh and to make it an even more dramatic beginning his debut also included a hat-trick.

In a short span Rabada has relatively established himself in the shorter formats for the Saffers and is slowly finding feet in the test match arena. He has 21 wickets in 10 ODIs for South Africa at an impressive average of 20.23 and an economy rate of under 5 runs per over. Considering he is just 20 years old right now, it seems as if Rabada has a bright future ahead of him and the Proteas might well have found another pace spearhead in him.

The award was given to the bowler at the 10th annual SA sports awards in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
