Potchefstroom: Pakistan U19 head coach Ijaz Ahmed clarified that there are no excuses left and the time has come to deliver at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020 in South Africa.
While telling about the team preparation at the practice session in University Sports Village, Potchefstroom on Thursday he said that they are positive for performing in the mega event.
“There are no excuses now, we have prepared well for this competition at the 40 days camp in National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore. We are positive to deliver great performances at the mega event,” Ijaz said.
Former Pakistan player’s utmost priority is to top the group and to avoid unnecessary traveling.
“Our priority is to top our group and stay in the city as the team which finishes second would have to travel to Johannesburg. So we want to stay here, get totally familiarised with the conditions and progress to the quarter-final and beyond in Potchefstroom,” He added.
Ijaz said the warm-up game against Nigeria U19 was not so challenging but against the Sri Lanka U19 was a bit difficult but they easily crossed the finishing line. The matches provided great practice for all the players.
Pakistan will start their U19 World Cup campaign against Scotland on January 19. Their second match is against Zimbabwe on January 22 followed by the third and final group match against Bangladesh on January 24. All three games will be played in Potchefstroom.
