Former Pakistani batsman, Salim Malik has demanded that the head of Pakistan cricket should be a cricketer to take the game on a higher level.
Salim Malik was talking to media after a club game against a visiting team from Belgium; he hailed the decision of appointing Inzamam Ul Haq as the chief selector.
Pakistan’s former skipper praised Inzamam for his habit of standing firm on his decisions, “Inzamam was a well known captain of his time and a fine batsman and I think no one would dare change his team.”
He blamed the PCB establishment for changing selected squads just days before tours and the main reason was that there weren’t any prolific cricketers involved in the team selection. But, Inzamam Ul Haq has a solid character and he won’t compromise on his selected team.
Malik went further to say that non-technocrats will not do any good to Pakistan cricket and should never be appointed as the head of Pakistan cricket, who doesn’t know much about the game of cricket.
He stated, “That post (PCB chief) should only be confined to cricketers,” he added, “Only a cricketer as PCB chairman would be in a better position to understand the problems faced by teams and the players and will be able to resolve them amicably.”
Salim Malik told media that he was interested in applying for the post of head coach, but, when he came to know that PCB is in quest of hiring the foreign coach, he changed his mind.
He, like many others, also claimed that a foreign coach will not give much of successes to the national team, “A foreign coach could not become successful with Pakistan team because of lack of communication and language problems,” he further said, “No foreign coach can convey his message to the cricketers properly.”
Malik said that head coach’s responsibility is to just guide players; he cannot change their basics at this level of cricket.
