‘No plans to remove Sarfraz from captaincy’ says Inzamam

Pakistan’s cricket team chief selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq coined Sarfraz as the perfect choice to lead Pakistan in all three formats at this point in time.

“Sarfraz was at his best during the last year while captaining Pakistan so removing him due to one bad performance would create panic in the team,” he stated.

He said that all the news regarding removing Sarfraz as captain are baseless and he will keep on leading the side as long as they possible.

“Neither we are replacing Sarfraz nor have such plans to do it in near future,” he said.

On the other hand, he also raised his support in favour of the left-handed opener, Fakhar Zaman, saying that only one big inning from him will shut the mouth of his critics.

To a query about Fakhar’s selection in the Test Squad despite failing to score in the Asia Cup, Inzamam said that he [Fakhar] is a big player and more than that is a match winner.

“Fakhar is a match-winning player and soon he will be back in form,” he said.

He further said that as a selector his duty is to maintain equality in the team and to provide equal chances to all the players.

“A single bad performance can’t decide the calibre of a player and we all should support the team and each player to motivate them,” Inzamam said.

Inzamam said that as a batsman he knows how much difficult it is to keep on performing well to avoid criticism.

“As a batsman, I know how tough it is to tackle such moments when you get out of form and it becomes a do-or-die situation for you to prove yourself immediately,’ he lamented.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan will take on Australia in the first test of the two test match series in the UAE starting from October 7.
