Shahzad Azam captured the spotlight at National Stadium Karachi (NSK) after he struck match-winning 32 runs off just 10 balls to beat Sindh by three wickets and set the final tie of the National T20 2nd XI Tournament with Southern Punjab.
In the second nail-biting semi-final in daylight, Shahzad and Jamal Anwar, who made 27 runs, had chased 44 runs in the last three overs. Shahzad struck three maximums and two boundaries to lead a successful 189-runs chase.
Earlier, Zeeshan Malik (58) and Noman Ali (31) provided a good start to the winning side.
Hassan Khan bagged three wickets for Sindh while Hasan Mohsin took two wickets conceding 35 runs in his four overs.
While batting first, Sindh scored 188-7 in 20 overs. Opener Amad Alam topped the batting chart with 81 runs. Rameez Aziz made 49 runs. Shahzad Alam picked up three wickets.
In the first semi-final at NSK, Southern Punjab (SP) beat Central Punjab (CP) by 13 runs.
Sent into bat first, SP posted 184-5 in 20 overs with the help of Zeeshan Ashraf who scored 90 runs off 56 balls. He struck seven boundaries and four sixes. Zain Abbas scored 51 runs.
Ehsan Adil took three wickets while Asad Raza bagged two wickets for CP.
In reply, SP reduced CP to 57-3 which built immense pressure on the chasing side. Usman Salahuddin fought hard to sail the sinking ship of CP but failed to finish the things well for CP. He scored 61 runs.
Zulfiqar Babar took three wickets while Mohammad Imran took two wickets for the winning side.
Both the finalist teams will play the final contest of the tournament on Thursday [24 October].
