One Indian player tests positive for COVID-19 in England

London: One member of the Indian team has tested positive for COVID-19 in England and he won’t travel with the team to Durham today, reports suggested.

According to ESPNCricinfo, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been affected and was is in isolation for the past eight days. He is asymptomatic at this point.

The 23-member squad had to leave for Durham as the side prepare for a three-day warm-up game against a County Championship XI team from July 20.

“Yes, one of the players has tested positive although he is largely asymptomatic currently. He is in quarantine at an acquaintance’s place and won’t be travelling with the team to Durham on Thursday,” BCCI told Indian news agency.

It must be noted that India travelled to England early in June for ICC Test Championship final. They lost to New Zealand on June 23 and were out of the bio-secure bubble since then.

Many players were seen roaming on the streets without mask and attending international sporting events like Wimbledon and Euro 2020.

The Indian team is due to take on England in a five-match Test series starting August 4.
