COLOMBO: Pakistan team arrived here in Colombo to play three test matches, five one day international and two Twenty20 matches against Sri Lanka which starts from June 17, ARYSports.tv reports.
The green shirts have to defeat Sri Lanka in the ODIs to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2017. They are currently placed at No.9 in the one day rankings.
Head Coach of Pakistan team Waqar Younis has said that his side will meet the targets set by the team for the tour and was optimistic that the team will qualify for the mega-tournament.
Younis also said that both Pakistan and Sri Lanka are rebuilding themselves as both side have lost senior players after the world cup earlier this year.
Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq and Shahid Afridi bid farewell to one day cricket while Sri Lanka saw Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara hanging up their boots after the World Cup 2015 in Austalia and New Zealand.
Pakistan’s ODI Captain Azhar Ali has said that Sri Lanka is not an easy opposition to beat.
The test team, led by Captain Misbah-ul-Haq, start their test campaign against Sri Lanka from June 17th at Galle. The second test will be played at Colombo from June 25th to June 29th and the third and final test will be contests at Pallekele from July 3rd to 7th.
The first one day game will be played on 11th July at Dambulla while the second match will be contested at Pallekele on July15. The third and fourth ODIs will be played on July 19 and July 22 at Colombo respectively. The fifth and final ODI will be contested at Hambantota on July 25th.
Meanwhile, Colombo will host the two T20 games on July 30 and August 1.
