Sri Lankan spinners dismantle Pakistan’s top order


ABU DHABI: Pakistan lost half of their side on just 67 runs in reply of Sri Lanka small total of 136 runs till Tea on the fifth day.

Pakistani bowlers, especially Yasir Shah who picked a five-for, did extremely well to restrict Sri Lanka to a low total.

While chasing the minimal target of 136 runs, Pakistan lost both of their openers, Shan Masood and Sami Aslam, on just seven runs.

Azhar Ali fell victim to a peach of a delivery Suranga Lakmal without scoring a run. Babar Azam’s poor run in Whites continued as he was removed by Dilruwan Parera.

Rangana Herath produced a special delivery to dismiss Asad Shafiq after he scored 20 runs.

Pakistan were 36/5 when the captain Sarfraz Ahmed joined his debutante Haris Sohail in the middle.

The two looked a bit positive and tended to score runs, they had put 31 runs together before Tea.

Pakistan need 69 runs with five wickets in hand in the last session of the first Test.

Earlier in the game, Sri Lanka won the toss and posted a firm total of 419 runs, with the courtesy of Dinesh Chandimal’s 155* and Karunaratne’s 93 runs.

Pakistan gave a strong reply by scoring 422 runs, Shan Masood, Sami Aslam, Azhar Ali and Haris Sohail scored 59, 51, 85 and 76 runs respectively.
