Pakistan dominate in junior Asia cup


Lahore: Pakistan completes its victory hat trick in the Junior Hockey Asia Cup. Green Shirts defeat Oman in the one sided final league match by 7-1. Vice captain Muhammad Dilbar nets thrice , Muhammad Abu Bakr twice and Muhammad Attiq and Muhammad Bilal Qadir successfully score single goals.

Pakistan now reaches the quarter final and will meet China. After winning this match Pakistan will directly qualify for the World Cup match scheduled in India next year. In various Asia Cup matches played, on Tuesday Bangladesh gave an upsetting defeat to Korea by 2-0, India gripped China by 4-1, Japan and Malaysia reached a 2-2 draw. According to details the first round of Junior Asia Cup has ended. The National Team with its top position in the group reaching the knock out level will be seen in action against China in the quarter final on Thursday.

Pakistan topped the group by a clean sweep winning all the three matches. Green Shirts scored 13 goals in all while 2 goals were scored against them. In the initial match defeating Bangladesh 3-1, the second match against the tough Korean’s resulted in a 3-0 win, while lately after defeating Oman 7-1 Pakistan retained the honor of staying undefeated.

According to details received from Kuantan city in Malaysia, Dilbar opened the scoring in the 3rd minute giving a lead to Pakistan which lasted for 2 minutes as Shafi al Shatari of Oman equalised the score in the 5th minute. In the 8th minute Muhammad Abu Bakr without missing a chance scored a goal through a penalty corner. In the 15th minute Pakistan made an important move and Muhammad Bilal Qadir added another field goal bringing it to 3-1.

In the 28th minute Abu Bakr through a penalty corner scored the 4th goal. A minute before the end of first half Muhammad Attiq scored a field goal bringing it to 5-1. In the second half Oman’s team resisted and didn’t give easy chances for scoring. During the last 10 minutes vice captain Muhammad Dilbar found the net and played superbly by adding 2 magnificent goals to the score making it 7-1. Muhammad Dilbar completed his scoring hat-trick just five minutes before the end of the play.

The Junior Asia Cup quarter final will be played on Thursday. Pakistan will be playing against China and it needs to win to qualify for the Junior World Cup to be played in India next year.
