Pakistan eyes Asian Sevens women’s Rugby championship title


The Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) on Wednesday announced 12-member squad for the Asian Sevens women’s Rugby championship slated to start from October 20 in Brunei.

Javeria Khan will be leading the side while other team members include Wahiya Kareem, Erum Shahzad, Nimra Maryam, Sana Hanif, Raheela, Amara, Zahid Parveen, Amna Siraj, Bushra Rashid, Ramsha Khan, and Maryam Asif Butt.

Suzen Marget Dawson (Coach), Hadeel Niazi (team manager) and Shumaila Yaqoob (Physio) will travel alongside the team to Brunei on October 18.

Javeria while talking to the media said that they are prepared well for the event and will clinch good results for Pakistan.

“We are well prepared and eying to achieve good results for our beloved country,” she said.

She hailed their coach and said that Dawson has given them much confidence to compete strongly against each opponent in the tournament.

“Our confidence is high and we have planned different strategies to overcome each counterpart,” she said.

Team’s head coach, Dawson showed full confidence in his team and said that this team is capable of achieving laurels for Pakistan.

“I am very much positive that these girls will do something big in this tournament,” Dawson said.

Dawson said that he honored to work with these extremely talented girls who are honest towards their game.

“I am enjoying working with these super talented girls who will surely achieve something big for Pakistan,” he said.

It is important to mention here that total eight teams are participating in the tournament including Pakistan, Malaysia, India, Brunei, Laos, Guam, Indonesia, Philippines, and Uzbekistan.
