KARACHI: Pakistan’s contingent of the 2017 Asian Boxing Championship had a disastrous start in Tashkent, Uzbekistan as four of the seven boxers knocked out of the tournament in the first round, Express Tribune reported.
Syed M. Asif (52 kg) and Mohibullah (49 kg) suffered embarrassing losses by 5-0 in their fights against Uzbekistan’s Jasur Latipov and China’s Junjun He respectively. Whereas, Tanveer Ahmed (75 kg) and Suleman Baloch (64 kg) lost their bouts by 4-1 against Brama Handra and Taipei’s Hung Ming.
Sanaullah (91 kg) and Awais Ali Khan (81 kg) are the only boxers that are still in the tournament and qualified for quarter finals. On the other hand Gul Zaib has advanced to second round of the event after he defeated Ahmed Harara of Palestine.
