ISLAMABAD: Pakistan hockey’s legendary goalkeeper, Olympian Zakir Hussain passed away at an age of 85 years on Monday.
Hussain was an integral part of Pakistan gold medal-winning squad during Mexico Olympics 1968, where he also stopped the golden goal of Australia in the all-important final with his face.
He was also in Pakistan’s hockey squad during Melbourne Olympics 1956, where the Men in Green ended up with a silver medal.
The legend’s funeral prayer will be held at his home town Gulshen Anwar Masjid, Jinnah Colony, Wah Cantt.
President Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Brig (Retd) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and Secretary PHF Muhammad Asif Bajwa have expressed their condolence to the family of the departed soul.
