Pakistan hockey team is almost certain to miss the Tokyo Olympics 2020 as International Hockey Federation (FIH) did not include their name in the pre-qualifying round for the mega sporting event.
The teams which will play the Pro Hockey League will reach the qualifying round on the basis of their ranking. Pakistan did not choose pre-qualifying round, while they opted for Pro Hockey League, but the former secretary PHF, Shahbaz Ahmed did not send the team for the league due to financial constraints.
Pakistan’s name is not included even in the reserved teams for the pre-qualifying round. The decision for not opting for pre-qualifying round and not to send the team for Pro Hockey League has put Pakistan’s participation in the global sporting event in doubt.
However, PHF is hoping against the hope and will write a letter to FIH to request them to include Pakistan in the pre-qualifying round, but, the chances are very bleak.
Pakistan hockey team has won three Gold Medal Olympics in Rome 1960, Mexico City 1968 and Los Angeles 1984. They have also clinched three Silver Medal in Melbourne 1956, Tokyo 1964 and Munich 1972. Whereas, they won Bronze Medal twice in Montreal 1976 and Barcelona 1992.
