Pakistan jumps up to the third position in ICC test ranking after the annual update. Australia maintained their first spot in the ranking, while India holds the second position with just a one point lead to Pakistan. India has 112 points, whereas, Pakistan is sitting at third sport with 111 points.
Pakistan benefitted as their 2012-13 loss against South Africa is not impacting their point calculation any more. On the other hand, the effect of Pakistan’s defeat against Sri Lanka in 2014-15 has been diminished to just half.
The team that is affected the most by this annual update is South Africa as they dropped to the sixth position. The impact of Proteas’ wins against Australia, England and New Zealand is neutralized after the update and it has cost South Africa.
West Indies have also been harmed by this update as their points are cut down, their lead against the 9th ranked Bangladesh was of 29 points, which is reduced to just 8 points.
Pakistan’s next assignment is a tour to England, where they will play four test matches, five ODIs and a T20 international. The tour will have a great impact on the rankings.
