The Pakistan hockey team will play their ‘home’ games in Argentina, Belgium, England, Germany, and the Netherlands simultaneously during the inaugural FIH Pro League, the Federation of International Hockey (FIH) announced on Tuesday.
The league will continue from January to June next year which will feature several series among top hockey playing nations.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) failed to crack a deal with Scottish hockey to play in Pakistan hence the FIH has decided to schedule their matches on neutral venues.
According to the FIH officials, they have consulted with the PHF and participating National Associations before taking this decision.
The FIH’s CEO, Thierry Weil said that they Pakistan is prominent among hockey fraternity hence they are always there to support them.
Mr. CEO said that they have collectively decided that Pakistan will play their ‘home’ games on neutral venues during FIH Pro League which is scheduled in 2019.
“Once again, the solidarity of the international hockey family is showcased. It is overwhelming to see that the participating National Associations were willing to adapt their schedules to support a solution for Pakistan,” he said.
Weil further thanked other members of the Federation for their support to find a solution for an Asian country.
“This initiative will help us to bring Asian hockey teams countries at International level,” said Weil.
It is important to mention here that Pakistan will play their first ‘home’ game in Argentina on February 3, 2019.
