Pakistan register second win in emerging teams Asia cup

The young duo of Sahibzada Farhan and Hussain Talat put 227 runs partnership on the scoreboard to beat the UAE by nine wickets to win their second consecutive match of the emerging teams Asia cup 2018 at National Stadium, Karachi on Friday.

Farhan scored 104 runs while Talat played a handy knock of 116 runs to make the chase for Pakistan an easy task.

The skipper of UAE after winning the toss decided to bat first to score as many runs as they can to put the hosts under pressure.

The opening partnership of 63 runs between Rohan Mustafa and Ashfaq Ahmed gave UAE a respectable start in the match. But off-spinner Ashiq Ali broke their good going partnership by getting the skipper Mustafa LBW.

Ahmed saw two wickets falling on the other hand as Ghulam Shabbir and Ramiz Shahzad departed after scoring ten and eight runs respectively.

But Ahmed held his nerve and scored praiseworthy 69 runs laced with nine boundaries and a six before giving away his wicket to Khushdil Shah who finished with the figures of 2-29.

Mohammad Usman with 51 runs was another prominent scorer for the UAE who reached to 233-9 in allotted 50 overs.

Ashiq Ali for Pakistan was the pick of the bowlers as he took three wickets at crucial situations. Mohammad Ilyas, Hussain Talat and Mohammad Asghar shared one wicket apiece.

In reply, Pakistan didn’t start well after losing an early wicket of Ali Imran on just eight runs. But Talat and Farhan took the responsibility and comfortably hand a victory to the green shirts.

Talat struck 14 boundaries and two sixes while Farhan guided the ball 10 times to the boundary during their long stay at the crease.

Talat while talking to the media after receiving man-of-the-match award said that the team management asked them to spend as much time as they can on the crease.

“Our plan was to stay at the crease and try to score as much as we can,” he said.

The 22-year-old hopes to make a comeback in the national team and for that, he is working hard. He was quick to add that the team is in good form and they will try to win this title.

“I am working hard to make myself more appealing on the field, “he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan will now face Bangladesh in their third match of the tournament on December 9 at the National Stadium.
