Pakistan to face South Africa in Women’s World Cup opener

The Pakistan women’s cricket team will take on South Africa in their first International Cricket council (ICC) Women’s World Cup which kicks off in England on June 24.

Sana Mir and co will play the Proteas at Grace Road in Leicester on the second day of the tournament before they clash with England on the same venue on June 27.

Pakistan will lock horns with arch-rivals India at The County Ground in Derby on July 2.

The Girls in Green finished fourth in the Super Sixers stage of the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifiers, winning two of their five fixtures during the stage.

A round-robin between the world’s eight best teams will conclude with the semi-finals at Bristol and Derby before the final at Lord’s on 23 July.

“We’ll try to finish higher than the fifth place in the upcoming World Cup,” Pakistan batter Nain Abidi told ARY on Tuesday.

“The girls are in good shape after a decent performance in the qualifiers,” she added.

June 25 – Pakistan vs South Africa

June 27 – England vs Pakistan

July 2 – India vs Pakistan

July 5 – Pakistan vs Australia

July 8 – New Zealand vs Pakistan

July 11 – West Indies vs Pakistan

July 15 – Pakistan vs Sri Lanka
