Pakistan U-19 team put up a flop show against Sri Lanka as they failed to chase a small total of 201 runs despite playing complete 50 overs in a game played on Tuesday at Chittagong.
After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to field first. Navod Paranavithana and Nishan Fernando gave Sri Lanka an impressive start with a 63-run opening partnership. Bilal Javed struck in quick successions to send both of their openers back in the hut on 63 and 65 runs.
The one-down batsman, Kamil Mishara also could not make much of contribution as he lost his wicket after scoring six runs. The two Pareras, Kalana and Nipun scored 48 runs together, before Kalana fell after playing an inspiring inning of 51 runs.
Nipun remained the lone fighter in the middle for Sri Lanka as he kept losing wickets from the other end, he was the last man to get out.
Sri Lanka finished off at a below-par total of 200.
Arshad Iqbal was the outstanding performer for Pakistan with six wickets. Bilal Javed took two wickets, Junaid Khan struck once.
When Pakistan came out to chase, they lost Saim Ayub cheaply. Jahanzaib Sultan and Saad Khan looked to rebuild inning and scored 39 runs together before both the batsmen lost their wickets in a span of two overs.
The skipper, Rohail Nazir, Waqar Ahmad and Awais Zafar scored 18, 24 and 43 but their strike rates were below 60, which cost the team heavily.
Pakistan scored 177 runs at the end of 50 overs with two wickets still intact, losing the contest 23 runs eventually.
The defeat against Sri Lanka eliminated from the tournament.
