Pakistan U19 beats Sri Lanka U19 by five wickets in their 2nd warm-up fixture


Pretoria: Pakistan U19 have comprehensively defeated Sri Lanka U19 by five wickets in their second official warm-up fixture in Irene County Club, Pretoria.

Green shirts after restricting Sri Lanka to 215 batted patiently and chased the target in the 46th over. Opener Mohammad Haris led from the start, scoring 67. Fahad Munir also scored a vital 51.

Haider Ali, the star with the bat in the last warm-up fixture only scored 33. All-rounder Qasim Akram also added valuable 29 off 28 balls.

Nishan Madushka was the pick of the bowlers for the islanders but didn’t get the support from the other members. He claimed 3-21 in five overs.

Earlier, Pakistan U19 bowlers have shown a great bowling display after Sri Lanka decided to bat first. Fast bowler Tahir Hussain, the pick of the bowlers claiming 4 for 41 in his quota of ten overs. Amir Khan, Abbas Afridi and Aamir Ali took two wickets respectively.

Tahir removed both the openers Navod Paranavithana and wicket-keeper batsman Kamil Mishara earlier in the day. The islanders batting duo of skipper Nipun Dananjaya (55) and Sonal Dinusha (68) showed some resistance and added 124 for the fourth wicket. Sri Lanka lost their last six wickets for just 22 runs.

It must be noted that Pakistan in their first warm-up match defeated Nigeria U19 by ten wickets. The men in green will start their campaign on January 19 against Scotland.
