DUBAI: Pakistan dominated the first day’s play on Asia’s first ever day-night Test match with the openers, Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam, leading the way.
At the end of first day Pakistan were 279/1 with Azhar Ali unbeaten on 146 while Asad Shafiq was not out on 33. After winning the toss Misbah had decided to bat first on a good batting track and the openers ensured that Pakistan took full advantage of that by putting up a massive opening stand of 215 runs. This was the fourth highest opening partnership in the history of Pakistan cricket.
The Windies bowlers failed to make an impression on the first day and toiled hard all day long despite the fact that they did not have much to show for their efforts. The only successful bowler from the visitors was Roston Chase who dismissed Sami Aslam, 90, and provided the Windies with the only breakthrough of the day.
