HOBART: Australian leg-spinner of Pakistani origin Fawad Ahmed set a new domestic record by taking eight wickets for Victoria in an innings during the Sheffield Shield final against Western Australia, ARYSports.tv reports.

The record was previously held by Chris Matthews of Western Australia as he had taken  wickets while conceding 101 runs against Queensland in the 1988 edition of the tournament.

The wrist spinner now has the best figures in Sheffield Shield with 8/89.

Ahmed had left Pakistan back in 2009 and claimed asylum in Australia. He used to play the sport in a graveyard in a village in Swabi
