Pakistani women have once again made the whole nation proud, this time they had held the flag flying high in the boxing ring. Rukhsana Parveen and Sofia Jawed, who were the part of first Pakistani female boxing team to compete in an international competition, bagged bronze medals in the South Asian Games in their own respective weight categories.
Rukhsana, the 23 year old Pakistani boxer from Multan, came all the way to the 60kg weight semi-final of the South Asian Games, but, could not get the better of her Sri Lankan opponent. The final score of the contest was 10-9, which proofs that Rukhsana gave it all. She seems satisfied with her performance that she has got so close to winning the bout.
Similarly, Sofia Jawed also claimed the bronze medal in the 75kg category. The Pakistani boxer gave a tough competition to India’s Pooja Rani. Sofia also did not allow her opponent an easy victory. The final score of the contest between the two arch rivals was 10-9. The two female boxers believe that they will receive an overwhelming response back home and hope that all the members of the team will get the due attention.
