The Pakistan Super League (PSL)’s second edition kicked off with a fanfare and ended on a success note, in particular after the league’s final in Lahore. Thanks to foreign players for making it to Pakistan to dispel the misconception of shaky security in the country.

West Indian batsman Marlon Samuels, who was part of the title-winner Peshawar Zalmi, made no secret of his praise for remarkable security arrangements put in place by the Pakistan Army.

“For me, it’s more than a coming to Pakistan to play a cricket game…”

He paid tribute to the army “For way they dealt with things…security was top class and it couldn’t have been a better security (than this),” Samuels said in a video message.

He began his message with a big thanks to army chief for his acknowledgement to the foreign players playing PSL final in Lahore.

The Caribbean batsman said, “…I am a Pakistani at heart, hence it didn’t take much to me to decide on coming Pakistan cos I am a brave soldier and I salute to you General (Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa).”

He said: “We hope we come to Pakistan again not only to stop here but to play cricket in the country.”

In concluding remarks, he certainly won the hearts of Pakistanis, saying: “I will continue to promote it (cricket and improved security in Pakistan) until I die, from the bottom of my heart.”
