Pakistan’s bowling coach Waqar Younis calls 15 bowlers to Lahore


With an aim to provide equal chances to the domestic performers, Waqar Younis has called 15 bowlers to Lahore for a weekend camp on Saturday and Sunday to assist them before Australia tour’s selection.

The candidates who are being called up mostly include the bowlers who have so far performed in ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and National T20 Cup.

Tabish Khan and Kashif Bhatti of Sindh, Zahid Mehmood of Southern Punjab and Sameen Gul of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa got the attention of Waqar.

Young pacers including Mohammad Musa and Naseem Shah have also made it to the 15 bowlers who will attend a weekend camp in Lahore. Mohammad Abbas and Shaheen Shah Afridi will also attend the camp.

The bowling coach is looking forward to judge teh fitness and temperament of these bowlers before all important national team’s selection for Australia’s tour.

“As the National T20 Cup has a two-day break, we thought of utilising this time by holding bowlers camp in Lahore with multiple objectives. But, this does not mean that the selectors have limited their selection options to these 11 bowlers. The selectors have an open mind and bowlers who are best suited to the formats and conditions on the upcoming tour will be selected.”

It is pertinent to mention here that chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq will announce the the T20I and Test squads for Australia tour on Monday. Pakistan is scheduled to play three T20Is and two Test matches there.
