Pakistan’s judoka Shah Hussain Shah faces a stern test today

Karachi: Pakistan’s Shah Hussain Shah, son of former Pakistan’s bronze medallist Olympian boxer Hussain Shah, will be competing in the minus 100 kg of Judo competition of Rio Olympics today.

Shah’s round of 32 match will be up against the winner of the match between world no.31 Kurbonove Soyib of Uzbekistan and world no.33 Blosenko Arten of Ukrain. He is the first Pakistani player to feature in the Judo event of Olympics. The world number 55 Shah Hussain Shah will be out of the Olympics if he does not manage to secure a win today.

Shah underwent rigorous training in Japan to prepare for this mega event and he will be confident about putting up a good show in the event. The judoka has won the bronze medal in the Asian Games twice and qualified for the Rio Olympics on the basis of continental quota.

Pakistan’s 7 member contingent has already suffered two casualties at Rio with both swimmer Haris Bandey and Shooter Minhal Sohail already being knocked out of the event in the first round.
