The chief selector of Pakistan women’s cricket team Urooj Mumtaz on Saturday announced the 15-member T20I and ODI squad for ICC Women’s Championship fixture against South Africa.
Both the squads will be led by Bismah Maroof while Urooj and team made one change in the ODI squad which last defeated West Indies 2-1 in the UAE. Uncapped spinner Rameen Shamim has replaced off-spinner Saba Nazir, while Jaweria Rauf, who last appeared in an ODI in 2014, will make a comeback.
On the other hand, Jaweria Rauf and Kainat Imtiaz have made it to the national squad as Anam Amin and Natalia Pervaiz will not go with the team to South Africa to participate in the shorter format of the game.
The selection committee’s head Urooj thinks that they have given equal chances to all the performers of the last couple of series.
“Players have been rewarded for their strong contribution in the series against West Indies and some new girls who were under consideration are given a chance in upcoming series against the Proteas,” Urooj said while speaking to the media at National Stadium Karachi.
To a query about developing new players and giving them opportunities, Urooj said that they are working to expand the players’ pool and more girls are finding their ways to prove mettle.
“We are considering young players but before that, we need to build more girls in the back up which will help us bring new faces in the team,’ said Urooj, while adding that the ODI series is more important for them as it is a part of ICC Women’s Championship.
Pakistan will be featured in three-match ODI series against South Africa starting from May 6. They will also play five T20I series against the hosts in their backyard. The tour will be part of ICC Women’s Championship.
