PCB announces squad for the Asia Cup

The chief selector Pakistan cricket team, Inzamam-ul-Haq wants to try different combination within the team as he on Tuesday announced 16 member squad for the 14th Asia Cup slated to start from September 15 in UAE.

The 16 players include Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Shan Masood, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed, Asif Ali, Haris Sohail, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Fahim Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Amir, Junaid Khan, Usman Khan Shinwari and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Inzamam while talking to the media after announcing the team said that the match against India is really crucial for the green shirts hence they should plan something different to keep an upper hand over the Arch-rivals.

“The boys should prepare themselves strongly against India,” Inzamam said.

He said that the team management had a close look to everyone’s performance and fitness and then finalise the best possible team for the Asia Cup.

“Each and every player is in the radar of the selection committee and we have just divided the players in different pools to make it an easy task for us to name the final squad,”

To a query about Hafeez’s non-selection, he said that no doubt Hafeez is a good player and had performed really well for Pakistan when needed but this time we found others more competitive than him.

“We didn’t ignore Hafeez but have some plans for him in future,” Inzamam stated.

He also talked about Imad Wasim– who failed the fitness Test twice to lose his place in the National squad for Asia Cup, and said that certain fitness level is obtained for selecting players and the one who fail to achieve it will not find any place in the squad.

“We gave Imad two chances but i think he needs to work hard on his fitness,”

The Asia Cup is scheduled from September 15 to 28 in UAE with Sri Lanka taking on Bangladesh in the opener of the tournament.

The high-octane match of the tournament between Arch-rivals India and Pakistan is on September 19 at Dubai International Stadium.
