Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed the former captain, Misbah Ul Haq as the team’s new head coach and chief selector, while Waqar Younis has been given the responsibilities of bowling coach, ARY News reported on Wednesday.
The duo has been selected with unanimous vote of all the five members of the panel PCB formed to select team management.
PCB had decided to not give any extension to the four-member coaching staff of head coach Mickey Arthur, bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower and trainer Grant Luden, on the advice of the cricket committee.
There were two other candidates for the post of head coach including Pakistan’s former coach, Mohsin Khan and former Australian batsman, Dean Jones, who has also worked with Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League.
However, the five-member panel has decided to give Misbah the responsibility to coach the national team, who is a Level II qualified coach from the PCB and ECB.
On the other hand, it is Waqar Younis’ fourth stint with the national team in the capacity of a coach, previously, he has been Pakistan’s bowling coach in 2006-07 and head coach in 2010-11. Two years later, the Bhurewala Express was once again appointed as the head of the side in 2014 and retained the position for two years till 2016.
